Althaea officinalis is perennial with an erect habit, woody taproots, and woolly stems. Grows 100-150 cm tall. Marshmallow (roots, leaves and flowers) has a long history of use as a medicinal plant.

Sow seed at max. 5ºC (41ºF), germination irregular, often several months.
